Shaving the bikini area is tricky, but can be mastered with a little know how.
Here’s How to have a sexy bikini line:
1) Change the blade in your razor, it needs to be very sharp. A dull blade will not give you a clean shave and will contribute to razor burn and nicks.
Look for a razor with lubricated strips, pivoting heads and spring-mounted multiple blades. My personal favorite is the Schick Quattro for Women, which has four super-thin blades and a pivoting head.
2) First time shaving this area, trim hairs before you begin. Exfoliating the area with a good Loofa pad can help reduce nicks and keep the razor from clogging up with dead skin.
3) Wet the area down with warm water first. You don’t want to shave dry skin. Soaking in a hot bath first will soften the hair. Use a good quality shaving gel, letting it sit a couple of minutes to soften the hair.
Soap and water are great for washing your hands, but for shaving. A good shaving gel will moisturize the area and help protect against nicks.
4) Shaving with the grain first will decrease the pulling of hairs and the potential for ingrown hairs.
5) Rinse the area well.
6) Reapply shave gel. Shave lightly across or against the grain. Rinse
Repeat step 6 a couple of times until the area feels smooth. Do not repeat step 6 more than 2 times. Doing so will lead to skin irritation and razor burn.
If needed wait for a few hours to pass to allow the area to calm down then repeat step 6.
When finished, apply oil or a good moisturizer to prevent dryness and irritation. Using a glycolic acid body lotion will help prevent ingrown hairs.
For a chronic case of ingrown hairs, try Tend Skin, an over-the-counter lotion for ingrown hairs, apply in the morning and at night. The bumps should disappear within a couple days.
I prefer to use a hair re-growth inhibitor after hair removal. Products like Aveeno’s Positively Smooth product line are good and can be found at almost any lotion isle in stores and walmart.
While growth inhibitors will not stop hair re-growth, It will slow down the rate at which the hair re-grows. These products work best after plucking, waxing or epilating before hand.
