Ever get all dolled up in that favorite dress or mini and look down to see that dreaded U-boat look that we as transgender females inherited from our male traits? ![]()
Good news, there are ways to make those tootsies look more feminine.
Shoe styles to avoid and why:
- Pointed toe shoes
While pointed toe shoes do tend to play down the width of the foot, they also make the foot look longer. A good way to off-set the look of long feet when wearing pointed toes is to wear slacks with wide bell bottom legs. Avoid straight leg jeans and so forth.
- Flats
Tend to make the feet look broader. The plus side to flats is, if you are tall they don’t make you tower over people in a crowd. Being the talleset girl in the crowd can make you stand out from the rest. Again, if you want to wear flats, wear clothing with legs that flare and off-set the broad foot look that flats give you.
- Low heal platforms
Platforms inherently make you look taller. If your already six foot tall, adding 2 to 3 inches in height will make you 8 to 10 inches taller than the average female. on the other hand, if your shorter in stature, those 3 inches can give you the illusion of longer legs. While platforms might give you a longer looking leg, they also tend to expose more of the foot, making the foot look broad. The way to off-set that is to opt for a taller heal, but that also tends to be a problem for us taller gals.
- Strappy heels and sandals
The more exposure your feet get, the larger they will appear. Sandals and strappys are not a good choice if you are trying to play down that fact you have larger feet. You might try wearing a peep toe shoe or sling backs instead.
General guidelines:
- Use dark colors, lighter colors then to make everything look bigger.
- Avoid shoes that expose a lot of the foot.
- wear heals, heals give your feet a smaller looking footprint but add height.
- Choose rounded toe shoes.
- A pointed and smaller width heel can make your footprint look smaller.
There is a lot of considerations for us bigger and taller gals, when purchasing shoes. Just be careful and don’t go overboard. Taking focus away from our larger tootsies by highlighting other areas can help.
Happy
shoe shopping!
